Test user(s) needed for the next VolumeGadget
I wrapped up a new VolumeGadget about a week ago, with added hotkeys and an attempted refresh bugfix. I have not been able to verify that it installs correctly for all users, so I was hoping someone stopping by here would like to give it a shot.
The install procedure would roughly be to
- Remove the VolumeGadget from the SideBar
- Close the SideBar completely, by right-clicking its icon in the notification area
- Restart the SideBar
- Install the new VolumeGadget, from http://indev.no/VolumeGadget.gadget
- Open the VolumeGadget settings and define a hotkey for e.g. muting. Save and accept the settings, and try the hotkey.
Also; I've seen that people are requesting multi-speaker configurations. I'll look into that when I find time. In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions for how that should look / be configured, feel free to leave a comment.

Installed with no problems and works perfectly (refresh included)! Thanks a lot.
I wasn't able to define a hotkey though: I can press Ctrl, Alt or Shift (and it's added to the text box correctly as Control+, Alt+ and Shift+) but the text boxes will not accept letters or any other button than those... I didn't need another volume hotkey anyway, so it's just perfect to me. :)
The hotkey not working is the point I need to sort out before I publish the new version. Could you possibly see if a reebot make the hotkey controls work properly?
Einar,
Thanks for the gadget. Let tell you the first bug I found in the same. I just installed the gadget after closing the sidebar.
I just tried some rough horizontal movements in gadgets but if we continue mouse movement even after it reaches to maximum and if we try to reduce the volume, it's not working. I dont know is this a known issue or not... It also happens vice versa i.e if we continue mouse movement after reaching the lowest point, it's not possible to move up without releasing the mic
Sarath,
That's actually intended behavior. The reason is that the gadget's mouse capture ends when the cursor leaves the gadget window. If I let the volume adjustment be active, you could start dragging, take the mouse outside the gadget, and release the mouse button. Once you'd re-enter the gadget window, button down or not, the volume adjustment would continue.
Unfortunately, after I rebooted the Gadget stopped refreshing (and the hotkeys aren't working still). Is it just me?
Lorenz,
That's the issue I've been fighting from version 1.0. It seems the volume control is trying to initialize itself before the sidebar is fully visible, and therefore fails to register hotkeys and callbacks for volume change. I'll continue looking into it.
The beta didn't work immediately after being installed. However, exiting and restarting Sidebar fixed the problem. I had the same experience on two different computers. Otherwise, it's working well for me.
After having been in use for a while, the gadget sometimes doesn't respond to hotkeys or change its display when the volume is adjusted through a volume selector other than the gadget. I haven't noticed a pattern as to when the gadget becomes unresponsive.
After I installed it, I tried to change the volume, but the bar won't move. It just stays all the way up. When I click on Mute, It wont work neither.
Is this a common bug or am I the only one experiencing this?
I have been using version 1.0 and was very pleased with it. Just today, I started getting an error message:
A Runtime Error has occurred.
Do you wish to Debug?
Line: 244
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
I have rebooted once today, but still the same error. It renders the gadget useless. I tried the new version, but get the same message (not sure if the line # was the same). The line # in the error message above is for the new version.
just reinstalled 1.0 and line number is 183.
I found a way to get rid of the error on another website, but now the volume gadget isn't controlling anything. It shows the volume as max and won't move it or mute. I can view the info screen though, so it isn't like it is unresponsive.
The only suggestion I can think of on the current (non-beta) is to make it play the default ding sound (Windows default) when you release the mouse - just like the real windows volume adjustment slider.
Same problem here. The volumegadget doesn't respond anymore, it just stays on full volume. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work. I love gadget it's the one I use most often. Would be great if someone finds a solution....
Hi, I can't uninstall the gadget, windows tell me that I need an autorisation (I'm the only one using my pc so I'm the admin). Plus, I have the same problem : can't do anything, volume is full and it doesn't respond... Please help...
Just loaded this gadget down yesterday, I like it, but it doesn;t display the current state of things if the colkume is adjusted/muted from another source. Otherwise seems pretty good to me. Any fixes on the way?
Installed and it work perfectly. I used the standard laptop combination of FN + f keys for up, down and mute.
